Who is Banksy?
Banksy is probably the most famous and yet most mysterious graphic artist in the world. His works take over the streets, auction houses and their price boards. In fact, he is considered one of the most prized contemporary artists of our time.
Banksy's street art gets attention because it touches on the pain points of society and touches people deeply - sometimes ironically, sometimes politically, but always poetically. When the city council of Bristol, the artist's hometown, wanted to remove one of Banksy's works from the city in 2009, they held a vote. Ninety-seven per cent of those who voted were against the idea. It was a clear statement of the importance of the artist's work. Today, Banksy's art is the city's main attraction. Banksy's influence is not limited to the art world. In 2010, Time Magazine put him on the list of the 100 most influential people in the world, alongside Barack Obama, Steve Jobs and Lady Gaga.
